NTT-AT to sell a fingerprint authentication system, which can be used for both room access control and sign-in and sign-out management
- Conforms to TCP/IP and allows incorporation into an enterprise network at low cost -

NTT Advanced Technology Corporation (hereafter referred to as NTT-AT, headquartered in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President: Kimio Tazaki) will, starting January 15, 2003, sell a fingerprint-based authentication system, consisting of an authentication device, AT-500FP and associated software, which can be used for both room entry control and sign-in and sign-out management of individual employees.
The fingerprint authentication system can be used not only for room entry and sign-in and sign-out management but also for various other applications in internal enterprise systems. Since the device is equipped with a TCP/IP-based networking function, it requires no external controller, and thus can be incorporated into a variety of solutions running on an internal computer network at low cost.

The fingerprint authentication device, AT-500FP, newly developed by NTT-AT, not only has functions for room entry control and sign-in and sign-out management, but also can be easily incorporated into an existing enterprise computer network because it conforms to the standard network protocol (TCP/IP). Having programmable key functions with a selection of 40 reasons for being present or absent, the device can be easily linked to time sheet or attendance record systems. In addition, the AT-500FP has a text-to-voice conversion function (optional), the first such application in the world, which can be used for various purposes within an office, for example, to provide guidance on the functions available or error messages, or to convey verbal messages left by other employees.

A system using AT-500PF does not require an external controller. Since it can use an existing LAN for the connection to servers, the introduction cost is extremely low. The device uses an optical sensor from SecuGen Co.*, which has a good track record. A built-in color or black-and-white videophone camera is available as an option.

NTT-AT is offering the fingerprint authentication device, AT-500FP, from 370,000 yen (consumption tax not included), and the associated server software from 300,000 yen (consumption tax not included).

NTT-AT has been offering total biometric solutions based on technologies available from both within and outside NTT Group companies. In particular, it has been providing fingerprint authentication systems for room entry and sign-in and sign-out management as well as network security applications for a wide range of customers, including NTT Group companies, local governments, data centers and call centers. To prevent leakage of private information stored in internal systems, organizations are increasing focusing on room entry management, which is key to information security within an organization. The system based on the AT-500FP can be introduced at low cost as a reliable room entry control system, which is particularly in demand in server rooms, data centers, call centers, laboratories, and hospitals.

NTT-AT will also support the achievement of total network security management by linking the AT-500FP to the other fingerprint authentication solutions it has been offering, such as fingerprint mouse, fingerprint controlled file encryption, fingerprint archive, and fingerprint authentication IC card reader.
NTT-AT plans to move aggressively into the field of employee sign-in and sign-out management in the service industry.
