NTT Advanced Technology Corporation

NTT-AT to act as distributor for AnyWare, a communication protocol development program, which promises to reduce software development time by about 70%.

More than 100 standard protocols are included, and codes can be automatically generated in C++, Verilog, and other languages

NTT Advanced Technology Corporation (hereafter referred to as NTT-AT, headquartered in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President: Kimio Tazaki) will, starting January 16, sell and provide technical support for AnyWare, a communication protocol development program containing more than 100 standard communication protocols, such as RPR (IEEE802.17: Resilient Packet Ring), as a distributor for Novilit Inc. (hereafter referred to as Novilit, headquartered in Marlborough, Massachusetts, U.S.A.: CEO: Axel Tillmann).

AnyWare is software for a new way of developing communication protocols, and consists of a proprietary specification definition language (CDML), for which Novilit has a patent in the U.S., a compiler (CMDE) and debugging tools. Since Novilit announced the software in June, 2002, the sales have been growing steadily, with a partnership formed with the InterOperability Laboratory of the University of New Hampshire.
Communication protocols are required in a variety of fields to provide advanced services over the network. In a conventional development environment, designing communication protocols for software and hardware has needed separate tools. The work of describing the specification of communication protocols has required expert knowledge, and the coding for converting the specification description into C, C++, Java, or assembler has been time consuming.

AnyWare allows engineers to develop protocols in the same environment regardless of the final products in which they are to be implemented. In addition, since a specification definition language (CMDL), designed especially for implementing communication protocols, is available for the designer, even a complicated communication protocol can be designed in a short period of time. The specification definition language (CMDL) offers more than 100 standard protocols in decode engine product and is the first packaged stack product to implement RPR (IEEE802.17: Resilient Packet Ring). imageIn addition, the specification description of a communication protocol can be compiled, and code written in C, C++, Java, assemblers, synthesizable Verilog, or VHDL can be generated automatically. This allows the time needed for developing a communication protocol to be reduced by about 70%.
Considering that Novilit's technology dramatically reduces the cost and resources needed for development, and contributes to reducing the lead time for marketing communication network devices for wired or wireless networks or satellite systems, NTT-AT is pleased to become the first distributor to sell AnyWare in Japan. In addition, NTT-AT will provide technical support, which will be backed by its long experience in selling LSI design tools, and by the know-how developed in NTT Laboratories and accumulated through the development of network solutions.
AnyWare will be exhibited at the Electronic Design and Solution Fair 2003 to be held from January 30 to 31, 2003 in Pacifico Yokohama.
