KTN and Innovative Optics

KTN crystal’s high electro-optic effect (EO effect) has been well known, but in the past, the product was hardly available. NTT laboratories have succeeded in producing the world's highest level of crystal growth process development. And now, NTT-AT supplies the crystals and its applied products to the world. These are the KTN deflector, which can flexibly control light direction with high speed by supplying signal voltage without any moving parts, and its application of a 200kHzOCT light source, as well as a high-speed variable focus lens (using EO effect) without any moving parts. A high-speed OCT light source contributes to reduce the impact of diagnostic imaging on patients and a variable focus lens contributes to leading-edge two-photon microscopy development that can see very small material transportation in cells in real time and 3D images. KTN Crystal can also be applied to optical switches (Kerr cells and Pockels cells) and phase modulators.
