Optical components and materials
NTT-AT, which inherited the technologies of NTT Laboratories, has developed a range of optical adhesives and optical resins along with the advancement of optical communication technologies. In order to realize highly reliable optical components, there must be superior adhesive and resin that can be easily solidified and have excellent durability. NTT-AT has developed and commercialized adhesives and resins that satisfy the customers’ requirements including not only adjustability of the index of refraction suitable for optical connection, but also precise fixation, heat resistance, high elasticity and low moisture permeability; these features are all effective for stable connections with low loss. Furthermore, NTT-AT provides important optical components such as an optical modulator used for multiple wavelength optical communication, which meets the demand for high-capacity optical networks, and wave plates that are superior in transparency in the range of wavelength used for optical communication. In addition, these plates are made of polyimide with high heat resistance and high chemical resistance to withstand soldering; and the plates of 1/2λ wavelength and 1/4λ wavelength are available. They are thin-film wave plates essential for manufacturing a low loss modulator (e.g., Mach-Zehnder, QPSK) and AWG.
