NTT-AT's Intelligent Optical Switches provide you with high reliability for optical network facilities, including core, edge and access networks, by switching optical fiber circuits between main and standby routes automatically with optical power level monitoring. It provides swiftness, safety and stability in operation and maintenance of your systems. You can switch the optical paths in the physical layer without interrupting network services.

Features

  • Automatic changeover / bypass protection switching by detecting optical power level change
  • Max. 8 optical switches (1×2, 2×4 or 2×2) being accommodated in the 1U chassis of NSW
  • Switching time of 10ms (max.) minimizes the video frame drops when hot switching video signals
  • Highly reliable optical switching devices conforming to Telcordia GR-1221 and GR-1073 are employed. (FIT=60)
  • Self-latching optical switching devices maintain switching status in case of power shutdown or reconnection
  • Multiple optical switches can be grouped together for interlocking operation in response to Link Aggregation environments.
  • Web-based remote control, SNMP-based remote management and telnet/SSH remote operations are available for response to various operating conditions

Intelligent Optical Switches - Products

We provide two series of our Intelligent Optical Switches: CSW series and NSW series. The NSW series of the intelligent optical switch is designed as a slot-in type configuration, and is highly flexible in customization.
The CSW series of the intelligent optical switch unit is a compact and basic model of the NSW.

 

CSW Series of Intelligent Optical Switches

The CSW series of the Intelligent Optical Switches brings you dedicated protection switching for optical networks at a reasonable cost, and have easy to install switching functions for your systems. They provide most functions of the NSW, such as automatic / remote changeover switching of optical fiber cables, automatic / remote bypass protection to various optical network paths and devices.

The CSW is a compact and basic model of our NSW, and is suitable for realizing relatively simple and small switching systems.

NSW Series of Intelligent Optical Switch Units

The NSW series of the intelligent optical switches are designed with a slot-in type configuration for standard 19 inch racks. The NSWs are highly flexible in customization, and provide automatic/remote changeover switching of optical fiber cables, automatic / remote bypass protection to various optical network paths and devices, and provides swiftness, safety and stability in operation and maintenance.

NSW Base Unit

The NSW Base Unit communicates and reports to operators via a 10/100Base-T LAN interface and RS-232C, and controls the states of NSW optical switch modules and power supply modules which are equipped inside. The shape and sizes are designed to be mountable to a standard 19 inch rack.

NSW Power Supply Module

The NSW Power Supply Module provides to electric power to NSW base unit and optical switch modules. The power supply module is plugged into a slot of the NSW base unit by hot swapping. A second power supply module, as optional, can be equipped to the base unit for redundancy.

Customization of NSW Intelligent Optical Switches

NSW Optical Modules Customization

The simple and flexible design of the NSW Intelligent Optical Switch System enables you to customize the NSW to suit your needs. We will customize our optical modules of NSW Intelligent Optical Switches for the customers' needs. The NSW adopts a slot-in module system which enables us to design and to provide a special optical module suitable to special network configuration, specifications, and so on. This includes customizing optical switching configuration, optical power branching, optical attenuations, and so on.

Customization of NSW Intelligent Optical Switch

One unique example of the customization is an NSW-QAI Intelligent Optical Switch designed for hundreds of fiber cable connections in a large scale Data Center. The NSW-QAI realizes direct connection of all optical fibers with internal switch modules as well as a compact mounting of NSW units on a rack. This customized NWS provides the customer with drastic improvement in length of downtime from 2 hours to 10 ms which realizes large cost reduction for redundant system. The NSW-QAI was co-developed with Japan Internet Exchange Co. LTD.

Operation Software for Controlling Intelligent Optical Switches

The Intelligent Optical Switches are equipped with communication interfaces of 10/100Base-T LAN interface for Web, Telnet, SNMP and TFTP controls, and RS-232C for Console Com. You can remotely control Intelligent Optical Switches using these interfaces.

For customer convenience, we provide a Web-based Remote Control Panel. The Web-based remote control panel enables you to remotely control the switch including setting the individual switches, checking the optical switch status, monitoring optical power level, etc., at any Internet connected location.
