Ambient Noise Database CD-ROM
Feature
This database has been developed for evaluation on the performance of telephone sets, public address systems, and speech input terminals with significant ambient noise.
The database is recorded on CD-ROM disks.
Each disk is divided into two areas, audio and data.
The signals in the audio area can be reproduced by a commercial CD player.
The signals in the data area can be read by a PC.
The noise recordings were performed using 4 separate microphones and 4 digital channel recorders.
These CD-ROMs provide better sensation of reality than conventional commercial CD titles for sound effects.

- High quality recording by digital recorder and editor
- 4-channel digital recorder
- Professional uni-directional microphones
- Editing by digital facilities
- Four-channel reproduction by a commercial CD player with special adaptor.
- Signals in the audio area are used for evaluating test objects in a sound field reproduced by loud speakers.
- Sampling rate (22.05kHz) is half of regular CD. Fifteen bits are allocated to the signal and the remaining one bit(LSB) is used for identifying front or rear.
Remarks
- Although seemingly normal sound may be produced when the CD-ROM disks are played with a regular 2 channel stereo player without using the adaptor, the sound is incorrect. Be sure to use the adaptor, which is sold separately.
- Regular CD disks cannot be played through the adaptor.
- PC readable
- In the data area are monaural noise signals which are generated by mixing the four channels. Such formats of noise may be used to evaluate the effect of noise on speech processing equipment. The normalized average power level facilitates adjustment of the S/N.
- Data are recorded by ISO 9660 format.
- Data is digitized at 8kHz sampling rate with linear PCM.
Remarks:
Only the fifteen bits from MSB within a 16-bit data is valid . - User's guide with photographic view of recording is attached.
In the guide, the main components of noise sources, and compensation signal levels to reference tones are indicated.
- 4-CH CD Adaptor Option
Input: Digital Audio Interface conforming to IEC958 Standard (either optical or coaxial (RCA type pin jack) is selectable by switch)
Output: Analog 4-channel signals (RCA type pin jack)Remarks:
The adaptor can be used only on a CD player with a digital audio interface.
